Fig Cuttings — Propagation Guide

Overview

Fig propagation from cuttings is nearly foolproof and is the standard method for home growers.

Best Method: Dormant Hardwood

  • Collect 8-10 inch cuttings in late winter
  • Include 3-4 nodes per cutting
  • Dip in rooting hormone
  • Plant in well-draining mix (perlite/sand)
  • Keep warm and moist

Timeline

  • Callus formation: 1-2 weeks
  • Root development: 3-6 weeks
  • Ready for potting: 6-8 weeks

Tips

  • Thicker cuttings (pencil-sized) have more energy reserves
  • Bottom heat speeds rooting significantly
